A Nervous System Re-regulation

Hi everyone,

Can't believe it's June already, what a year it's been so far. I know, I know it's been a while but I'm back here at home!

The last few months have been a whirlwind, my age has increased and in all honesty I feel pretty good about it. I am now on the topmost floor of my twenties and I feel ecstatic to climb the next flight of stairs. I know, I'm just as shocked as you as I type this!

In March, for my birthday I went to Thailand. First and foremost I must say Thailand is such a beautiful country and I had THE most amazing time. For the first time in a while....(or maybe ever), it felt like my nervous system had been re-regulated...I guess that's also holiday mode for you. The joy of waking up and not having to rush out for anything was bliss (apart from the one odd occasion when I had to check out of my hotel early to go to the airport!). I slowed down, and I loved it, I glided like a snail in the hot beaming sun. I recognised the importance of the sun, the tides of the ocean and the sand. I fell in love with the beauty of nature and rediscovered its importance in human life.

I was so close to bringing some Thai sand back home...until I did a quick google search and realised the potential consequences that may have followed if I had done so.

In a fast-paced, capitalist society it's so easy to stay on go-mode 24-7, without even realising that you haven't truly rested. For some of us we may sleep, but our minds are still switched on. Have you ever thought that maybe your nervous system needed a break? It doesn't necessarily need to be a trip to Thailand, it could be a cheap 30 minute massage (Groupon & Wowcher have some great deals!), or even having a digital detox for a few days. There have been times where I've left the house without my phone and though I've been on edge for the initial first few minutes, afterwards it was so freeing!

I can't believe as children we thought rest and sleep were weapons of mass destruction. If I had known how much I would've needed sleep in my life, I think I would've cherished it more!

AS YOU RE-REGULATE

PUT ASIDE THE PRESSURE TO FIGURE OUT YOUR FATE

SOMETIMES ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS BE STILL AND COUNT TO TEN

IT FEELS EMANCIPATING DOESN'T IT, WHEN YOU FEEL SO ZEN

What do you do to re-regulate your nervous system, to feel at peace, to calm the storms in your mind?
